Viparita Raja Yoga Calculator
Viparita Raja Yoga — "reversed" Raja Yoga — is a distinctly Vedic idea: the houses of conflict, crisis, and loss (6th, 8th, 12th, together called the **dusthanas**) can, under the right condition, actively work in your favor instead of against you. It forms when the lord of one dusthana sits in another dusthana, and takes one of three classical names depending on which house is involved: **Harsha** (6th lord), **Sarala** (8th lord), or **Vimala** (12th lord).
Ayanamsa: Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) · Houses: Whole Sign · Rule: lord of a dusthana (6th/8th/12th) itself placed in a dusthana — Harsha, Sarala, or Vimala Yoga

What Is Viparita Raja Yoga?
The 6th house governs conflict, debt, and illness; the 8th governs sudden upheaval and transformation; the 12th governs loss and isolation. On their own, these are difficult houses. But classical Jyotisha holds that when the ruler of one dusthana is confined to another dusthana, it effectively neutralizes itself — the negative energy of one difficult house gets trapped within another, and the native ends up benefiting rather than suffering, often after visible early struggle.
Harsha, Sarala, and Vimala
Each of the three possible dusthana-lord placements has its own classical name: Harsha Yoga (6th lord in a dusthana) is tied to victory over enemies and resilience against illness; Sarala Yoga (8th lord in a dusthana) is tied to longevity and courage in crisis; Vimala Yoga (12th lord in a dusthana) is tied to contentment and a capacity to turn loss into freedom.
A Note on the Lord Occupying Its Own House
When a dusthana lord sits in its own house (e.g., the 6th lord remains in the 6th), that also technically satisfies "a dusthana lord in a dusthana," though classical commentary generally reads this as a weaker expression than when the lord moves to a different dusthana. This calculator reports both cases but rates the strength accordingly.
