The Three Gana Temperaments
Deva-gana natives are classically read as gentle, spiritually inclined, and cooperative; Manushya-gana natives as balanced, pragmatic, and ambitious; Rakshasa-gana natives as intense, driven, and strong-willed. Neither type is "better" — they're simply different temperament profiles, and Gana Koota checks how naturally those two profiles are expected to blend.
How This Calculator Scores Gana Compatibility
The same Gana on both sides scores the full 6 points; a Deva-Manushya pairing scores 5 (a generally workable combination); a Rakshasa paired with either Deva or Manushya scores 0, flagged as a genuine temperament clash worth conscious attention rather than an automatic problem.
A Disclosed Scoring Choice
Some classical texts apply a directional (groom/bride-specific) Gana table with slightly different values depending on which partner has which Gana; this calculator uses the more widely published SYMMETRIC version instead, scoring the same regardless of which partner is entered first, for the sake of accuracy about which specific table is being used rather than guessing at a directional one.
