Graha Maitri Calculator
Graha Maitri — "planetary friendship" — checks how the classical rulers of your two Moon signs relate to each other using the naisargika (natural) friendship table BPHS lays out for every planetary pair. It's classically read as the koota most directly tied to mental compatibility, worth 5 of the full 36 Ashtakoota points.
Ayanamsa: Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) · Rule: same Moon-sign lord = 5/5; otherwise scored from the classical naisargika (natural) friendship table, checked in both directions

Why This Koota Represents Mental Compatibility
The Moon governs the mind, and its ruling planet colors HOW that mind naturally operates — Graha Maitri asks whether the two ruling planets involved are natural friends, neutral, or enemies of one another, as a proxy for how smoothly two minds are likely to understand and support each other.
Why Both Directions Are Checked
Classical planetary friendship isn't always mutual — Mercury, for instance, considers Venus a friend, but Venus doesn't return the sentiment as strongly. This calculator checks BOTH directions (how planet A regards planet B, and vice versa) and combines them, since a one-sided friendship reads differently than a fully mutual one.
When Both Moon Signs Share the Same Lord
If both partners' Moon signs happen to be ruled by the exact same planet, this is classically treated as the strongest possible outcome — scoring the full 5 points automatically, since a planet's relationship with itself is definitionally as aligned as this factor can get.
