Soul Urge Number Calculator
Your **Soul Urge Number** — also called the Heart’s Desire Number — comes only from the vowels in your full birth name, and points to what you privately want beneath whatever face you show the world: your Personality Number. Vowels are traditionally treated as the "inner" letters of a name, carrying the sound of the soul, while consonants carry the outer expression.
System: Pythagorean (default) or Chaldean · Vowels only: A, E, I, O, U, Y · Master numbers 11, 22, 33 preserved

What Is a Soul Urge Number?
Only the vowels in your full birth name — A, E, I, O, U, and traditionally Y — are converted to numbers and summed for this calculation. The result is read as your Heart’s Desire: the motivation running underneath your actions, often invisible to other people and sometimes only half-visible to yourself.
Why Only Vowels?
The vowel/consonant split is one of numerology’s oldest conventions: vowels are treated as the "soul" of a word— the sound that carries feeling — while consonants shape its outer form. Applied to a name, the vowels are read as the inner self and the consonants (your Personality Number) as the self other people actually perceive.
A Note on the Letter Y
Traditional numerology treats Y as a vowel only when it isn’t adjacent to another vowel in the name (so in "Bryan" it counts as a vowel, but in "Yolanda" it may not, depending on the school). For simplicity and consistency, this calculator always counts Y as a vowel. For most names this makes no difference; for a small number of names with an ambiguous Y, treat the result as a close approximation rather than a disputed exact figure.
Desire vs. Behavior
A Soul Urge reading describes what you want, not necessarily what you do about it — the gap between the two is often where the most useful self-reflection happens. Someone with a Soul Urge for freedom (5) but a life built entirely around routine isn’t "wrong," but the tension between the two is worth noticing honestly.
