Arudha Lagna Calculator
Your **Arudha Lagna (AL)** is the Jaimini technique for a question your Lagna alone can't answer: not "who am I," but "**how does the world see me**?" It's calculated by counting from your Lagna to its ruling lord, then counting that same distance again — and the gap between your Lagna and your Arudha Lagna is often exactly where self-perception and public perception diverge.
Ayanamsa: Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) · System: Jaimini Arudha Pada · Rule: count from Lagna to its lord, then the same count again from the lord; if the result is the 1st or 7th from Lagna, use the 10th instead

What Is an Arudha Pada?
Jaimini's Arudha technique derives a "reflection" of any house by counting the distance from that house to its ruling lord, then counting the identical distance again from the lord's own position. Applied to the 1st house (Lagna), this produces the Arudha Lagna — the chart's image or reputation point, as distinct from the Lagna's literal, inner self.
The Classical Exception Rule
Jaimini specifies one correction: if the raw count would place the Arudha Lagna back in the 1st house itself, or directly opposite in the 7th, that result is discarded and the 10th house from Lagna is used instead — the logic being that an "image" identical to or the exact mirror of the self isn't a meaningful reflection. This calculator applies that exception automatically wherever it triggers.
Why the Gap Between Lagna and AL Matters
When the Arudha Lagna sign is close to or the same as the actual Lagna sign, self-perception and public image tend to align closely. When they diverge significantly, classical readings suggest a real gap between how you experience yourself and the persona or reputation others attribute to you — a distinction many practicing Jaimini astrologers treat as essential for questions of fame, status, and public role.
